CIA Professor David Whiteman

CIA Professor David Whiteman, QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute

CIA Whiteman has research interests in the causes, prevention and treatment of cancer. He is currently lead investigator of PROBE-NET NHMRC CRE Grant 2013-2017) and co-principal investigator of the BEAGESS genome-wide association study with Dr Tom Vaughan (US NIH R01 2009-11). Previously, he was lead investigator on two multicentre, population-based studies of oesophageal cancer (NHMRC program 2002-6) and BO (US NIH R01 2002-7) that were forerunners to PROBE-NET. He is a member of the Steering Committee of BEACON, Chair of the Barrett’s Guidelines Committee for the Cancer Council Australia, and the Advisory Group to the Medical Services Advisory Committee. He serves on the editorial boards of Cancer Epidemiology, BMC Gastroenterology and Frontiers of Cancer Epidemiology Prevention.

CIB Phillips has a track record of high quality research as evidenced by over 70 publications in top peer-reviewed cancer journals, over 2200 citations, more than 40 oral presentations at national and international scientific conferences, and a strong record of NHMRC funding. He is a past Churchill Fellow, DW Keir Fellow (Royal Melbourne Hospital) and NHMRC Research Fellow and served on Cancer Australia's National Reference Group for Upper Gastro-Intestinal Tract Cancers.

CIC A/Professor Reginald Lord, St Vincent’s Hospital

 

CIC Lord is Head of the Gastroesophageal Cancer Program at the UNSW St Vincent’s Centre for Applied Medical Research, Head of Surgery at Notre Dame School of Medicine and adjunct Professor of Surgery at Macquarie University. He is Chair of the Sydney Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery Society, a member of the Upper Gastrointestinal NSW Oncology Group, and a past Cancer Institute NSW Clinical Research Fellow. He is a member of the Cancer Council NSW (CCNSW) cancer research committee and the CCNSW Strategic Research Partnership grant review committee. He is a member of the Cancer Council Australia Guidelines Committee for Barrett’s oesophagus and neoplasia and was a member of the Advisory Panel to the Medical Services Advisory Committee investigating radiofrequency ablation for BO. He has received personal awards including awards from the STOP Cancer Foundation USA and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.

CID Professor Nicholas Hayward

CID Professor Nicholas Hayward, QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute

CID Hayward is a founding member of the PROBE-NET, BEACON, BEAGESS and International Melanoma Genetics (GenoMEL) consortia and is Vice President of the Society for Melanoma Research. His work focuses on identifying cancer predisposition genes through linkage and association analyses, positional cloning and candidate gene studies, as well as whole-genome and exome sequencing. Additionally, his research involves identifying and characterizing somatic mutations or gene expression differences associated with cancer development and progression. Currently, he serves on the NHMRC Academy and the Cancer Council Queensland Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee.

CIE Professor David Watson

CIE Professor David Watson, Flinders University

CIE Watson is Head of the Flinders University Department of Surgery and co-Director of the Flinders Centre for Cancer Prevention and Control. Evidence of his standing includes service on NHMRC Grant Review Panels, including 4 years as a GRP Chair or Deputy Chair. He has been Foundation President of the ANZ Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (2006-10), Chairman of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) SA Board in General Surgery (2004-9), and past Chairman of the HPB & Upper GI Section of the RACS. He has served as the Australasian representative on the Board of Governors for the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus, and the executive committee for the International Federation of Surgical Endoscopy Societies. He is also a member of the South Australian Comprehensive Cancer Consortium Steering Committee for which he chairs the oesophageal cancer tumour stream.
